Job Title:  2nd Shift Quality Control Technician

Reports to: Packaging Manager, Packaging Team Lead, Director of Production

Department: Production

 

Jack’s Abby Brewing is recruiting for a 2nd Shift Packaging Quality Control Tech for the Production team Team. Jack’s Abby was founded in 2011 by three brothers, Jack, Eric and Sam Hendler. It is one of the fastest growing breweries in the country and known for making beautiful craft lagers under the Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers brand.

Description: Quality Control Tech will be responsible for ensuring consistency and reliability in the following areas of the packaging department: Quality Control (QC), Inventory, Machine Operation, and Analysis of Department KPI’s. This position will split its time in key areas of the brewery-both behind the desk and on the production floor. Prior brewery, machine, or QC experience is preferred, but not required. Other projects and responsibilities may be assigned according to department needs.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

Quality Control (QC):

  • Taking beer measurements
    • CO2, Dissolved Oxygen, taste, aroma and visual test every beer before and during packaging to ensure it is true to brand.
    • Determine splits between kegging and multiple canning formats based on barrelage and sales needs.
  • Set X-ray and take Can weights to determine cans are filled properly
  • Seamer Checks to ensure cans are sealing properly 
  • Can D.O. & CO2 checks
  • Keg D.O. checks 
  • Maintain all logs, DO & CO2 Log for Canning and Kegging, Packaging log, Packaging Loss, Can Pallets Sheet, Issue tracker, Tank Status, Loss tracker, etc. 
  • Operate, maintain, clean and calibrate Orbisphere 3000, Anton Paar Carbo QC, Anton Paar Oxy QC, Pentair IDGM and Zahm & Nagel CO2 volume meter 
  • Coordinate with the Lab for any special projects
  • Operate Master C Tech Can filler..   
 

Inventory:

  • Document daily inventory of all packaged beer 
    • Cans, trays, lids, other raw materials
    • Forecast inventory needs for each run, cans needed, cartons etc 
 

Machine Spot Checks:

  • Glue integrity in trays and cartons 
  • Photoeyes/reflectors
  • Machine cleanliness 
  • Assist operators with raw materials 
  • Ensure all machines are operating as expected 
 

Production Analysis:

  • Calculate daily efficiencies
  • Record waste and product loss
  • Maintain records all packaging materials to track quality long term
  • Track downtime
 

Help on the canning line as needed:

  • During lunch breaks, Split shifts and during Variety pack runs 
  • learn how to operate each machine on the canning line and be able to fill in if necessary.
  • Train other operators on Q.C. processes and procedures as needed
 

Requirements

  • 1 year Beer packaging experience required 
  • Machine operating or manufacturing experience preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with a positive attitude
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Available to work long and/or flexible hours
  • Forklift certification and/or experience is a plus
  • Work well under pressure and at a fast pace
  • Work independently and within a team with minimal supervision
  • Must be dependable and have reliable transportation
  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19
 

Hours: 12:00 pm - 10:00 pm Monday - Thursday.  

Salary: 23.00 - 25.00/ hr depending on experience
